Extracts from an interview we did with Anthony Joshua a few months ago, it shows that he is a very philosophical young man who appreciates everything he has been gifted with in life.
The tragic incident today where he lost two of his closest friends will take some serious… pic.twitter.com/OcBiot5bCw

Reflecting on purpose, mortality, and the pace of modern life, Joshua added:
“All of this stuff, believe it or not, is a big distraction, in my opinion. Because in the grand scheme of things, everything that I chase and everything that I want to own to make me feel relevant on this earth is not so important, because I can’t take it with me.All that’s guaranteed is death. All that’s going to be important is just living to the best of our capability. Ain’t it mad how fast life will go? We’ll be old, and one day all that will matter is living to the best of our capability.”
He also spoke poignantly about his grandfather’s aging and how it shaped his perspective on what truly matters:
“I went to see my Grandad the other day and he’s very old now. I was thinking that all that matters to him now is who’s looking after him at his elderly age because he can’t really look after himself anymore. At one stage of his life, going to work was the most important thing ever. And now to that business, he’s nothing, because he’s too old now.”
Anthony Joshua Remains Hospitalised
Joshua, who miraculously survived the crash, remains hospitalized in Nigeria as his family, including his uncle Adedamola , express their shock and hope for his recovery.
AJ is responding to treatment. That’s the line the family keeps repeating. It’s the safest way to say someone is holding together without pretending everything is fine.
“I feel pain all over my body,” Joshua said after the crash.
That sentence says more than any medical update ever could.
He remains under observation at Duchess International Hospital. His condition is described as stable, but stability in moments like this only means the damage has stopped spreading. It does not mean the damage is gone.
His mother, Yeta Odusanya, has been allowed at his bedside. Others have not. That detail matters. Hospitals only limit access when things are serious. When rest and quiet are part of the treatment.
“We have not been allowed to see him,” said his uncle, David Joshua. “But from information given by authorities, he is responding to treatment.”
That’s as much certainty as anyone has right now.
Joshua had been in Nigeria less than six hours before the crash. He was travelling with two men who were more than just part of his circle. Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele were constants. Familiar faces. People who made the work easier and the travel bearable.
They did not survive.
Another relative, Adedamola Joshua, spoke about the impact of losing them.
“The incident shook our family deeply,” he said. “Though our son, Anthony, is alive, two of his friends, who came to celebrate with us, lost their lives.”
Those words land heavy because they’re clean and unpolished.
He added, “This is a serious tragedy, not only for our family, but for Ogun State, Nigeria, and the world at large.”
