Chris Eubank Jr. is ready to get to work ahead of his anticipated UK clash with Conor Benn this Saturday night.
Eubank Jr. [34-3, 25 KOs] faces Benn [23-0, 14 KOs] as two sons of British boxing legends stretch out a legacy lasting over three decades.
The Chris Eubank Sr. vs. Nigel Benn rivalry from the 1990s is etched into the memory of all United Kingdom fans, having been passed down through the ages.
Tainted by clomifene drug test failures, a canceled O2 Arena event in October 2022, and an egg-smashing incident, the Chris Eubank Jr. vs Conor Benn fight will go off on Pay Per View and aim to capitalize on all that’s gone before.
With doubts over a reasonable explanation for his two VADA failures in 2022, Benn heads into the contest as the heel in the melodrama. IBO middleweight champion Eubank remains at his ‘ideal weight’ after a spell at super middleweight.
Despite holding a ‘world title’ of some sort, WBN understands the contest is a non-title fight.
Fight week is well underway, with a press conference and weigh-in to come before fight night.
Speaking at a press event to publicize the 65,000 sell-out, Eubank Jr. took everything in his stride.
“I’m calm. I’m very at peace with where I am in my life and where I am in this fight,” said Eubank Jr. “I really do believe that everything I envisioned, everything that I have trained for, will come to fruition.
“But I’m grateful to be here. I’m happy. I don’t have any chips on my shoulder, as Conor Benn always points out. And I don’t have any frustrations. I don’t have any ill will towards people. I just want to go out there and have fun.”
On what the fans can expect, Eubank added, “Domination in every department you can imagine, whether it’s boxing, whether it’s a gun fight, defense, offense, foot movement, speed, power.
“I am the superior boxer in each of those departments and so many more, which is why I’m so confident, which is why I’m so relaxed, which is why I’m so happy.
“I guess you could say there’s been more fire in my soul, in my spirit, in my mindset. This is the biggest fight of my career.
“This is the most important fight to date, which is very rare for a 35-year-old fighter. Usually, at 35, fighters’ careers are behind them. I’m still going up and up.”
