With Daniel Dubois officially set for an undisputed heavyweight title unification with Oleksandr Usyk in his next outing, he spends some time talking to BoxNation about getting this opportunity and what it will mean for him to avenge his past loss to Usyk. Check out some excerpts of what Dubois had to say below.
Dubois on this opportunity against Usyk for all the major world titles
“There’s no other way this is going to end, I’m going to come out with all the belts. I’m ready for him and I’m really hungry. This time is going to be a blood bath and I’m just going to go to work, demolition.
“Glad that all the starts have aligned and it’s all come together now and I’m at the right place at the right time, so it’s all about timing. Everything’s just working out for the better and now this opportunity, I’m ready to take it with both hands.
“This is revenge, this has a lot in it, but this is the biggest fight in boxing.”
On if he still believes he should’ve gotten the win over Usyk the first time around
“100%. When he went down and everything — when I watch it back it was definitely over. But it was political and all of that stuff going on with the war and everything. This time I’m not going to leave no stone unturned, no chance for any questions or anything. I want to nail him to the canvas and do it properly this time.
“I’ve got to do it right, I got to put him to sleep properly. I’ve just got to finish him off, put him to sleep. The crowd was entertained last time, this time it’s going to be a proper war.”
On if he plans on targeting Usyk’s body once again
“I’m going to hit anything, I’m not just on a body shot or anything. I’m just got to hit everything, let loose. What he escaped, what he got away with last time, this time he’s not going to get away with it.”
On being an improved fighter since last fighting Usyk
“I’m going to be 10 times better than that, now. This new version, this new and improved guy you’re going to see is going to be way, way better than that, the AJ fights and all that. I’m going to be trimmer, sharper, everything. Just going to be, you know, fighting machine and that’s what I am.”
On his belief that Usyk won’t be able to deal with this version of him
“No way. I can’t wait until this is all properly done and announced and on the road, but no way he can take this power.
“Just ferocious. I’m going to be ferocious and I’m just a different fighter now. You guys are going to see, I’m going to put him to sleep properly this time and do myself justice and get them belts and get my revenge in the process.”
