Johnny Fisher suffered a crushing knockout defeat at the hands of Dave Allen this past Saturday, and while emotions were running high in the dressing room after the bout, Fisher spoke on why he expects to return strong from the defeat.
“Five years ago, me and my dad — we had no money. We had nothing. My dad’s business, he owed 350 grand. We had to work to get it off,” Fisher said backstage after the fight.
“That’s what a real fighter is. What I do in there, that’s nothing compared to what my dad done. That’s where I get my fighting spirit from. My dad’s strong, my grandad was strong. I’ll be back, and I’ll get up every single time.”
“I’m upset now, but I’m good. It’s alright to cry if you’re a man. Try and do it inprivate, not like me right now. But I fuckin’ — I’ll get it in the teeth. I’ll get it from next week. We’re strong and the main thing is I’ve got all these people around me that believe in me.”
Fisher (13-1, 11 KO) took his first L as a professional in the fight, but “The Romford Bull” will have plenty of time to rebuild from here. At age 26, there’s no rush on throwing him back into those waters, and potential still to do damage on the domestic scene at least.
