Jermall Charlo may have ended any hopes of ever facing Canelo Alvarez after making a stunning claim against the Mexican.
The super middleweight contender, who returns this weekend against Thomas LaManna, targeted Canelo and others with the performance enhancing drug brush.
Charlo was due to battle Canelo in 2023 but had to pull out due to mental issues. Brother Jermell stepped in and lost via unanimous decision.
Since then, Charlo held links to a Canelo fight until the Mexican superstar signed a deal with Al Haymon’s rival, Turki Alalshikh.
With any chance of fighting Canelo off the menu, Charlo took the opportunity to lay into the pound-for-pound star after stablemate Jaime Munguia failed a drug test.
Asked by Fight Hub TV if he had a chance to look into the Jaime Munguia situation yet, Charlo responded, “No, I heard he was on steroids or something like that, it’s crazy.
“Jaime Munguia OD’d (explains what he means later in the interview). He did some goofy s***, and he OD’d. That’s what I call OD’d.

“I have been telling you all (about this) for a long time. They make the drug at the limit of not being responsible. So, this level is you are banned, that is a banned substance.
“So they will make the drug all the way up to the line of the banned substance, but it just didn’t show, so it’s not responsible.
“They have been doing that s*** for years, but now that they have tapped into it. They are getting caught.
“Do you all think that Canelo has not been taking clenbuterol for a long time? Do you think he isn’t back on that s***? Or do you think it was a mistake?
“Because I go to Mexico all the time, I am from Houston. I am there all the time, eating steak. I have never been popped for no s*** like that. They are microdosing it (the meaning of OD’d).
“This is not just boxing. There are a lot of athletes all over the world. They make the drug right to the line of disqualification, but they don’t surpass it. So they are not getting caught for it.
“A lot of these fighters are on all kinds of s***,” he concluded.
Canelo won’t be happy to have his name mentioned in the same breath as drug fails following his six-month ban in 2018.
The 34-year-old had to delay a clash with Gennadiy Golovkin as he served out a suspension. Canelo eventually fought GGG months later to a controversial draw. However, the vast majority of those who watched thought he lost.
Despite Golovkin’s protests, Canelo agreed on a trilogy and won both remaining bouts. The rematch was close, but the third was convincing. Canelo’s name has remained clean ever since until the Munguia failure brought it all back to light.
In a recent media gathering, Canelo said he would stand by Munguia and his trainer moving forward.
