Abdul Fatawu goes viral after scoring from inside his own half for Leicester against Ipswich

Abdul Fatawu goes viral across social media after scoring from inside his own half for Leicester against Ipswich on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts were already one up through Bobby De Cordova-Reid on the 8th minute, who from 30 yards smashed an effort past Christian Walton for his fourth goal of the season.

Then came that much talked about goal from Abdul Fatawu is inside his own half, sees the keeper off his line, around 10 or 15 yards inside his own half, then he strikes it over Christian Walton and into the net.

Similar to David Beckham’s strike against Wimbledon in 1996, very similar to Joey Guðjónsson’s goal in March 1996.

Jordan Ayew made it 3-0 on 52 minutes and then Leicester almost made it 4-0. Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s effort cleared off the line.

But the Foxes again made it a nervy finish with Jens Cajuste getting one back for Ipswich on 71 minutes. But Leicester managed to keep it at 3-1.

Leicester fans singing “from the halfway line Abdul”, but I’m not sure that does it justice, must’ve been about 10 yards inside the half!#lcfc pic.twitter.com/Jy3mGv6jCf

Matt Piper (Former Foxes winger on BBC Radio Leicester): “Some people had hands on their mouths or hands on their hands. It was an absolutely outstanding goal. That’s the best goal I’ve seen this season without doubt.

“Mavididi and Fatawu were both on the front foot. The game was a bit scrappy in the first five or 10 minutes but Leicester controlled most of that first half.

“De Cordova-Reid was probably going to win Championship Goal of the Season until Fatawu scored his goal. It’s been a really good first half with two incredible goals.”

Head coach Marti Cifuentes has told BBC Radio Leicester:

“It’s a huge win and the performance was really strong.

“We scored fantastic goals but we played at a high level.

“The first one helped us to start the game with a positive feeling which is important – very happy for Bobby who is showing how important he is to the team.

“This moment of brilliance and quality from Abdul – it’s a fantastic goal, it’s one of those which is very special and I am happy for him because he is a good boy who works hard and is improving all the time.

“At the end we cannot forget the things we need to improve but the way we responded (from the 2-2 draw at Bristol City on Wednesday) was important.”

Boss Kieran McKenna told BBC Radio Suffolk:

“Bit of a strange game – the goals had a big bearing on it which is obvious to say but they’ve scored two worldies in the first half.

“They’ve scored a goal just before half time which is as good as you’ll see anywhere and it changes the feeling for both sides.

“It simply wasn’t our day.

“We know a Leicester with confidence and they score two goals like that then you’re facing one of the best teams in the league for sure.

Here’s how fans reacted as Abdul Fatawu goes viral after scoring from inside his own half for Leicester against Ipswich…

@Ashleypp1986: A surprisingly comfortable 1st half for us. Ipswich have been poor, but we have been on it and scored 2 fantastic goals. Now it is all about keeping those levels up staying switched on and learning from games before. We can’t afford to throw anymore points away! #lcfc

@Jakebroadwell2: Btw that Fatawu goal is already goal of the season 🦊 #lcfc

@THENUNEATONFOX: Fatawu NEVER scores tap ins… he scores ridiculous sublime goals. Such a special player #LCFC

@BenHarding6: Abdul Fatawu. What have you just done 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 That is sensational. No words

@kelsen_sachin: Genuinely that might be our greatest ever goal #LCFC #LEIIPS

@nathanjlaw: Fatawu with a a goal from well inside his own half to double the advantage for The Foxes. Absolutely incredible goal. That’s got to be 70 yards out 😅 #LCFC

@ITFC_Alex: Properly awful half that. Walton was closer to the halfway line than his goal line for Fatawu’s goal. Ok it was a special strike, but it was invited. That’s probably us done for now today. Philogene stops every time he’s got the ball. Kills the momentum. Run, mix it up.

@jamieestenning: Fatawu has just panna’d the Ipswich player and banged it in from his own half, kid is ridiculous #lcfc

@FFSPod:“Abdul.”“There’s a phone call for you, it’s Joey Guðjónsson”#LCFC

@_bracken1851: What the hell is Walton doing for crying out loud i can’t take this team seriously regarding promotion every week stupid mistakes at the back virtually guaranteed

@beadle_81: What a fantastic goal that was. Feel sorry for our away support, we look dreadful again on the road

@Aaronhughes_64: The distance on that is disgusting. Said it in the summer. How the hell have Leicester managed to keep hold of him for another season in the championship. He’s miles above

@Carlton_Blade: xG of ‘don’t shoot from there you fucking mentalist”

@LCFC_Cal: There might be some amazing goals yet to be scored in this championship season but surely this has won the award already, be fr

@hazza_yates: No need to be that high 😭 why are we so bad against these lot all the time #itfc

@thecjsw: If you like football you won’t see a better goal than this today from Leicester City player Fatawu! 🤩

@fpl_flair: This is the type of goal children go to bed dreaming of. Absolutely wonderful.

@Stevenyoung27: Just pulled my back jumping around like a looney and scraped my shin on the seat love it

@Bradley_AJ: Fucking hell a megs into scoring well in your own half is unreal

@_fvckouttahere: the guy on Soccer Saturday was having an aneurysm when this happened 😂😂😂

@goat8la: yeah actually just goal of season already fairs ofc it would be abdul to do it
