I set out to fill this space with a breakdown of Alyssa Naeher’s stoppage-time equalizer for the Chicago Stars late Monday night in Seattle. And while it was a fascinating few minutes of soccer, there wasn’t much in the play other than a corner kick, a great save, a messy scrum, and a finish that could not have been any shorter, So the pivot was to the Houston Dash, who are suddenly changing games in the closing minutes on a regular basis. Let’s take a look.
Entering the final minute of stoppage time Sunday, the Dash had managed only one shot on goal. And that wasn’t even what had them level 1-1 away to Gotham. The first Dash goal came on a putrid back pass from Emily Sonnett that eluded keeper Ann-Katrin Berger and rolled in for an own goal. A long weather delay followed soon after and the Dash were the better squad on the other side of it. But still it seemed Gotham were as, or more, likely to find a winner than the Dash.
