Angel City’s back-to-back draws have earned them just two points. The team is still finding its identity under sporting director Mark Parsons’ leadership, aiming for a possession-based style while integrating a reshaped squad. Cohesion remains a work in progress, especially in the final third.
With only an interim head coach at the helm and striker Sydney Leroux taking time away for a mental health break, Angel City find themselves lighter in the striking department, relying on natural rookie options, with Julie Dufour and Christen Press both now available after overcoming injuries.
Interim coach Sam Laity has been working to instill Angel City’s possession-based vision, but consistency and precision will take time. While their intent in both of their opening matches was clear, it was the Portland Thorns match where the team showed more cohesion and produced more dangerous moments, but not in the way they appear to intend in the long term. Rather, it was in transition and direct moments where the club found the most success.
