Aston Villa continue their impressive winning run, grabbing their 11th consecutive victory by beating Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. Ollie Watkins was the hero for Villa as he came off the bench to grab two goals that helped turn things around for the visiting team.
Villa Came from Behind to Take Down Chelsea
The Villas have been putting on a run of excellent results ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge, winning 10 straight games across all competitions. However, they were facing a Chelsea side that are keen on getting back into the title challenge.
It was the Blues that had a brighter start as they went 1-0 up after 37 minutes through Joao Pedro’s effort, which lasted until the half-time break. The away side improved their performance in the second half, and Watkins’ substitution was key to their comeback.
The England international sparked Villa’s offense as he snatched the equalizing goal in the 63rd minute before completing his side’s comeback by scoring his second goal in the 84th minute. Despite their desperate attempt, Chelsea can’t get back into the tie and has to accept a disappointing result in front of their home crowd.
That result keeps Villa’s title shot alive and well, as they are still just three points behind league leader Arsenal. As for the Blues, that result now puts them slipping in the standings, down to joint fifth with Manchester United as both sides collected 29 points.
