Birmingham issue a statement on the ‘serious allegation’ made by Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic during Saturday’s game.
In his post-match interview, Jakirovic claimed he was told to “f*ck off” by Birmingham boss Chris Davies, and to “f*ck off back to Croatia” by a member of Blues security staff. Davies, for his part, denies his comments. This is why Jakirovic refused to shake hands.
Birmingham have since said in a statement: “Birmingham City are aware of a serious allegation made by Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirović towards a member of the security team at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.
“Having conducted an internal investigation, the Club refute, in the strongest possible terms, Mr Jakirović’s claims. In addition, we are disappointed that the allegation was made in a public press conference. We will be making no further comment at this time.”
Baz Cooper tweeted: “On this, have spoken to Regan Slater who confirmed Davies did say that as he heard him. City not expecting to lodge a formal complaint at this stage, but SJ felt disrespected. #hcafc”
It wasn’t just the staff that clashed, as players also got in a tussle, there were also many a questionable refereeing decision on show.
A lively affair at St Andrew’s today with @HullCity boss Sergej Jakirović allegedly given some clear travel advice from some wags on the @BCFC bench. I feel sorry for whoever it was, I’d politely suggest there’s only one winner there! Official statements to follow? #hcafc pic.twitter.com/3kNsYkNmAm

FT: Birmingham 2–3 Hull 🔵Heated, chaotic and full of controversy. The Blues fought hard but were undone by shocking refereeing and a late Hull winner. Furious scenes at half-time and full-time. #BCFC pic.twitter.com/Sn65gJM0p9

The result means that Birmingham have suffered their first home league defeat since April 2024, a 29-game unbeaten home run ended, while for Hull, they ended a 47-game wait for consecutive wins.
Hull took the lead early with an own goal by Jack Robinson, but Jay Stansfield levelled for the hosts. Regan Slater’s header put Hull back in front before half time.
Baz Cooper of Hull Daily Mail reports that ‘both benches were embroiled in a brawl before the break’.
Birmingham ‘felt they should have had a penalty after a tussle between Charlie Hughes and Keshi Anderson’.
Robinson was sent off in the second half after a second yellow card, and Joe Gelhardt sealed Hull’s victory in stoppage time.
Stansfield scored from a controversially awarded late penalty, but Birmingham couldn’t get a leveller, dropping to 17th in the league, while Hull climbed to 10th.
Both sets of players and benches ‘went awol’ after a Joseph challenge on Leonard that went unpunished.
Birmingham’s Chris Davies reportedly ‘went head-to-head with Marko Salatovic’, then security staff came in and it kicked off again.
Come the end of the five-minute stoppage time, Gelhardt and Stansfield received yellow cards, along with Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic and Tom Huddlestone.
It seems some fans also lost their head in the stands with one seen making hand gestures and pulling down his trousers and showing their bum to fans in the away end.
Some pretty strong post-match comments from Sergej Jakirovic, who claims he was told to ‘f*ck off’ by Birmingham boss Chris Davies, and to ‘f*ck off back to Croatia’ by a member of Blues security staff. Davies, for his part, denies his comments. #hcafc

Sergej said, per Birmingham Mail: “I was in my technical space all the time, they came to us. If you leave your space you get a yellow card. I got a yellow card because I show this (imaginary yellow card) for a very bad foul on Kyle Joseph. This is the age of the red card because it’s on purpose.
“I asked Chris why he came in my technical area and he said ‘F-word you’ and some security guard said ‘Go back to Croatia’.
“I am very happy with this. I am hard born, I am not afraid of anyone. I am doing my job in this country and I respect this country, I will never say something like this.
“For me it’s disrespectful and I didn’t shake hands which is, for me, a disaster but it’s OK, I’m a big boy. I can take care of myself.
“I will not say anything officially. This is football, it’s emotions, it’s stress. For me, manager to manager, it’s normal in this country and I like it very much that after a game you can drink a beer. I can forget it now. I take three points and go home.”
Asked for his version of events, Chris Davies said: “There was a melee of people as there usually is in those sorts of incidents and I didn’t think there was anything too unusual but he decided not to shake my hand.
“It’s never happened to me as a manager and I don’t think I’ve ever seen that as a coach. It says a lot but it is what it is.”
When Jakirovic’s allegations were put to Davies, he replied: “No. I didn’t hear any of that so I can’t really comment. From my point of view, I was making sure we were getting our people back and getting going with the game.
“Emotions are running high and people are scurrying around everywhere. It’s something that happens every week and unfortunately it culminated in him not shaking the opposition’s hand after the game.”
Here’s how fans reacted as Birmingham issue a statement on a ‘serious allegation’ made by Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic…
@williamyoung95: That was a rather quick internal investigation for such a serious allegation. This whole thing was not helped at all by having such a horrendous set of officials in charge either. Completely lost control of the whole match and got so much wrong.
@MattKL1980: Don’t think SJ will bump heads with Davies again tbf. He’ll have clocked his P45 by the time the reverse fixture comes around. Birmingham do also appear to have a sense (unfounded) of elitism about them #hcafc
@JlMIFFER: That’s disgraceful if true and club should be fined with suspensions dished out to those involved.
@WestHullTiger03: Right so let’s get this straight, we’ve mauled Birmingham on their on turf but Sergejs gone yeah I’m going to make up he told me to fuck off back to Croatia (where he’s even not from) Then Reagan slaters gone yeah gaffer I’ll agree with your story? Fairs #hcafc

@DoddsJoe1: @EFL @EFL_Comms whoever appointed ruebyn ricardo to the Birmingham game today question him about his diabolical arselicking of hull genuinely a shit performance all round clear pen for blues not given, clear red card not given after Robert’s got clattered off the ball, genuinely
@BrownyHull: Well that game had everything! The ref had an absolute nightmare all day and caused most of it which seems to be a weekly occurrence but I thought we played well in parts! Still things to learn from and build on but we just dont win those games this time last year! Progress #hcafc
@HcafcT: Oh that’s a sweet one, Yanks humbled by the tigers #hcafc
@alanoldfaithful: another totally normal game of football for @HullCity then! what a win #hcafc
@u_ull1904: One of the most stressful and chaotic city games I’ve ever watched #hcafc
@TomBrady @BCFC stick that on your @skytv documentary. Your home run is finally over, your playing with the big boys now. Crazy game football #hcafc pic.twitter.com/Eoath4Mq15
