We’ve had a lot of questions about your celebrations, one of them was from Steven who enjoyed your celebrations against Aston Villa, and Phil says his daughter is copying your six-seven one all the time now. Can you talk us through the meaning of those celebrations…
“Honestly, all my celebrations are thought of and decided by my son. He is football-mad and United-mad, he loves Manchester. Every day when I leave the house I ask him: ‘What celebration do I have to do?’ So, the six-seven came from him. Also, this one [whilst he does the motion with his hands towards his nose] is to show that I can smell the goal.”
Owethu (Eswatini): What is the secret to staying calm under pressure?
“The work day-to-day. The work you do every day will always pay off. So, when you work every day, it is true football is played by 11, but there are 20 in the squad, so it doesn’t just depend on you. But when you do your work, in the end it will always pay off.”
Kiprop (Ireland): Which attribute when you reflect on each part of your game – technical, mental and physical – would you say you have maintained from your early days as a professional?
“The question is [about what I have] maintained so I would say the mental side, the focus. What sums me up is focus. To be focused every day, I have been this way ever since I was a kid. Always focused on the objective. Of course, you improve the technical side, you improve physically with the work every day, the technical side you already have but you still improve. However, the mental side has always been what I have maintained from being a child.”
