Crystal Palace provided another surprise for English football fans after they beat Liverpool to win the Community Shield this weekend. Palace defeated Liverpool via penalty shoot-out after drawing 2-2 in normal time.
Palace Beat Liverpool to Win the Community Shield
After shocking many football enthusiasts with their success in winning the FA Cup by beating Manchester City last season, the Eagles strike again. Battling against the Premier League champion, Liverpool, in the preseason affair, the Community Shield, Palace came out victorious again.
Despite trailing 2-1 at halftime with Liverpool scored through their new signings, Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong. Oliver Glasner’s side never gave up hope, grabbing that one important goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta’s spot kick in the first half. Palace drew level after the break through Ismaila Sarr’s effort, forcing the game to go into penalties.
Although it was not a perfect shoot-out by both teams, Liverpool had three crucial misses from Mohamed Salah, Alexis Mac Allister, and Harvey Elliot. Meanwhile, only Eberechi Eze and Borna Sosa failed to convert for The Eagles.
