Gnabry: ´Form of my life´ is a bit exaggerated

Serge Gnabry insisted claims of being in the form of his life were “a bit exaggerated” after he scored in Germany’s 4-0 win against Luxembourg.

Having been involved in an early disallowed goal when his strike struck the arm of Nick Woltemade, Gnabry got his name on the scoresheet in the second half as Germany moved to the top of World Cup qualifying Group A with ease.

The 30-year-old has now scored twice in three qualifying matches for Germany in this campaign after also finding the net in their win against Northern Ireland.

Gnabry has been in fine form for Bayern Munich, too, this season, scoring three goals and registering six assists in 15 matches (including at the Club World Cup).

He leads the way for most assists for the Bundesliga giants alongside Michael Olise.

However, Gnabry does not believe he is in the best form of his career, but is pleased with how things are going.

“Form of my life is a bit exaggerated. I’m having a good start to the season,” said Gnabry.

“It did me good to score again today. I’ve often said that I didn’t change anything.

“It’s self-confidence, especially with the way we’re playing at Bayern at the moment. Sometimes things go well, sometimes they don’t. Right now it’s going well for me.”

Gnabry accumulated 0.33 expected goals from four shots against Luxembourg and also won all of his four duels.

Julian Nagelsmann was pleased with his winger’s display ahead of a trip to Northern Ireland, who are second in the group.

“He had a very good performance,” said Nagelsmann after the win.

“It was very important that he also tracks back and defends transitions, you need that even against Luxembourg. Serge did that very well. Offensively he also was very good.”
