Jamie Vardy vents on social media after Leicester’s relegation

Jamie Vardy has apologised to Leicester City’s supporters for the club’s relegation and branded the 2024/25 campaign a ‘sh**show”.

The Foxes’ immediate relegation back to the Championship was confirmed by Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Premier League champions-elect Liverpool, courtesy of a late goal from substitute Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The defeat was Leicester’s 23rd of the Premier League season with five games still remaining, piling further misery on manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, appointed to replace the sacked Steve Cooper in December, who has not seen his side even get a goal at the King Power Stadium for over four months – an astonishing run of nine scoreless games.

Supporters have protested against the club’s ownership group and director of football Jon Rudkin, who they blame for the Foxes’ failings, and Vardy has admitted in a post on social media that the players have been nowhere near good enough.

“At this point, I don’t even know what to say. No words I have can ever express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone. There are no excuses,” Vardy wrote. “Collectively, as players and as a club, we failed. There is simply no hiding, and I refuse to entertain any suggestion of doing so.

“Having been at this club for so long, we’ve experienced so many highs and successes — and this season has been nothing but miserable and for me personally, a total embarrassment. It hurts, and I know you’re feeling it too.

“To the fans: I’m sorry. Sorry we haven’t performed, and sorry we end the 2025 season with such a s**t show.

Vardy was a key player in Leicester’s famous 2015/16 Premier League title winners, scoring 24 goals as the club shocked the establishment of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea to win a first-ever top flight crown.

The 38-year-old has given Leicester 13 seasons of service, scoring 181 goals across the Premier League and Championship, and again tops their scoring charts this time around with seven strikes to his name.
