Jenna Nighswonger is at a critical juncture in her career. Entering 2025, she appeared near the top of the list of left-backs competing for a starting role with the U.S. women’s national team. Since moving to Arsenal last January, however, she has fallen down the pecking order at an alarming rate. The 25-year-old hasn’t been called up since the SheBelieves Cup in February, while players like Lilly Reale, Kate Wiesner and Izzy Rodriguez have since forced their way into contention.
Next year will be a big one for Nighswonger. Recently, Tim Stillman of the Arseblog Arsenal Women Newsletter reported that she will likely exit the club, either on loan or permanently, in the upcoming January transfer window. Her next move shouldn’t be based solely on playing time, but also on the position she will play.
