Leicester issue statement as fan groups condemn hateful chanting towards club hierarchy

Leicester issue a statement as fan groups condemn the hateful chanting towards club hierarchy during the win at Norwich on Saturday.

Fan groups, including Foxes Trust and the Fan Advisory Board, strongly denounced the abusive, divisive, and discriminatory language, urging supporters to express passion respectfully.

The club welcomed the fans’ stance, reaffirmed support for its staff, and called for unity, stating such behaviour has no place in football or society.

Earlier, Foxes Trust had criticised the club’s silence amid on-pitch struggles, financial uncertainty, and fan discontent, demanding open communication and leadership.

On the 6th of November, Foxes Trust wrote: “Our club currently finds itself in the bottom half of the Championship after two relegations in three years, facing potential points deductions and continued financial uncertainty.

“Much of the squad continue to show a lack of commitment, fight and quality under yet another managerial regime, while decisions like the shirt sponsorship stir controversy and resentment.

“Within the ever-dwindling crowds there is a mixture of apathy, anger, division and toxicity.

“Despite this decline, and despite the findings of the Trust’s survey, the club has maintained its long-held radio silence.

“We are therefore again calling on the club to break that silence and communicate openly, honestly and directly with Leicester City fans as soon as possible.

“Now is the time for senior management to show leadership and set out a plan for the future. Only then can togetherness return — both in the stands and throughout the club.”

Then a statement from the LCFC supporters groups and fan representatives on the fan advisory board.

It read: “Leicester has a proud tradition of being an inclusive and respectful community. We support our team and express our views openly because we care deeply about the Club and its future success.

“However, some of the chants heard on Saturday in the away end against Norwich crossed the line. We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, any language that incites harm toward individuals. We also reject divisive, racist or hate related chanting of all forms.

“We stand together as supporters, united in the belief that `home’ for everyone in the Leicester City community is King Power Stadium- regardless of race, belief or background.

“Like any community, we are strongest when we stick together through good times and bad. We call on all Leicester City supporters to end hateful chanting and to express our views with passion, but always with respect. Thank you.”

CLUB STATEMENT

We welcome the statement issued today by our supporter groups and representatives from the Fan Advisory Board.

Some of the chanting heard from sections of our away support at Norwich on Saturday crossed a serious line. Abuse or language that incites harm towards individuals, or discriminates against anyone, has no place at our Club, in football or in our society.

We also want to make clear our support for our staff and leadership. Personal abuse of any kind is unacceptable. The people who represent Leicester City work with dedication and integrity every day, and with the Club’s best interests at heart. No one should be subjected to targeted or hateful language while doing their job.

We are proud of our supporters for calling this out. It’s a shared responsibility across the whole Leicester City family to ensure our game remains free of this kind of behaviour and language.

It’s always been clear how much passion and love our supporters have for their Club. It’s what makes Leicester City special. But we ask all fans to consider how that passion is expressed, and to ensure it never crosses a line that undermines the values that can bring us together.

Twitter users gave their reaction after Leicester issue a statement as fan groups condemn the hateful chanting towards club hierarchy…

@Watto_T: Most fans agree that the chants were wrong & we condemn them. Do you know what else is wrong? – No communication – Allowing a club to be ran into the gutter with nobody taking any responsibility, while we still await findings from the internal review of 22/23 season. Top Out

@TAIEpodcast: “The people who represent Leicester City work with dedication and integrity every day, and with the Club’s best interests at heart.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 #KingPowerOUT #AiyawattOUT

@ragsyrai: The death threats are bang out of order agreed. The language and brutal nature of the chants stops there. But the message respectfully, is still the same. #AiyawattOut #RudkinOut #KingPowerOut

@StevenScrase: You have the gall to cry wolf when you get pushback from fans (right or wrong) whilst retrospectively brushing them off as if they are meaningless. Fans have wanted answers about the “managed” decline of their club for a number of years now and you have ignored them at every turn. LCFC are a joke – hypocrites. Bookmark this and mark my word because you will have Sheffield Wednesday MK2 within two years.

@HaIfTurn: If the only time you communicate is because of those chants then you create the space for them to continue because it’s the only time we hear from the club

@lcfcgeorgee: Not quite sure what was chanted, but in a polite way then, Rudkin out

@chloe_d1306: Most of us agree that the chants were totally unacceptable. Question for the staff/leadership, were you working with ‘integrity’ on the day the BC Game deal was signed off?

@JamieB8806: “We also want to make clear our support for our staff and leadership.” Says the club staff, in the statement signed off by the club leadership…. 🤔

@johnclem79: Quick response from the club!! If only they could communicate this quickly with what the plan is going forward! As for “Leadership” that’s a stretch there is no leadership, Top is running this club into the ground! #Rudkinout #Kingpowerout

@finnjmoore: Make sure he doesn’t have to suffer anymore by removing him from the club

@c_r_5:Number of disrespectful chants: 1Number of responses from #LCFC: 1Number of valid, respectful chants & other communication about gross mismanagement, lack of accountability, finances & outcomes on the pitch over last 3.5yrs: 1,000s upon 1,000sNumber of responses from @LCFC: 0

@Hathernfox65: Most poorly run club in the country currently and this is the only time you communicate! Been watching Leicester for over 50 years (even lost money on the clubs shares) and this is the most disconnected from the club I have ever felt! Happy to offer my services as a Director

@dannyb_31: Chants are wrong and overstep the mark but as always… No recognition, accountability or acknowledgement of how we’ve gone from an established PL club to mid table championship ( breaking FFP along the way) Imagine my shock

@SA_1884: “Leadership” and “whilst doing their job” is a bit of a stretch isn’t it. Sack him 👍🏻

@c_r_5: Interesting that you’ll comment on fans’ opinion of the board in the case of a chant that was wrong. But months & months (years?) of valid criticism goes by uncommented

@MarcusT51203208: I don’t care about Rudkin, he don’t care about meeeeee, all I care about, IS LCFCCCCCC

@newty1987: Wow, just proves you can communicate when you want to. I agree this particular chant over steps the mark, however it would be nice to see a similar speedy reaction when it comes to accountability in the board room. Stop hiding! Any chance of reminding us who the leadership are, we haven’t seen or heard from them in 10 years 🤔

@LicoriceTorpedo: Respect works both ways. Funny how this has prompted a response (quite rightly) but when fans have legitimate concerns they are stonewalled. Fans aren’t customers. We’re much more than that. Maybe you should communicate openly with us. This situation would not have been so bad

@craiglcfc: The chanting was unacceptable. But there is no “leadership”. The owner who was supposedly going to take more control in the wake of Whelan’s departure has seemingly done anything but. Unacceptable chanting by a sizeable minority of morons doesn’t change a thing.

@1884XM: This brings a statement but two relegations in 3 years and half a decade of incompetent running of the club brings silence?
