Man City Comeback Win Against Liverpool at Anfield
After failing to beat Tottenham Hotspur in their previous league match, the Citizens arrived at Anfield determined to take all three points. City tried to control the game with possession but struggled to break Liverpool’s defense.
Liverpool also looked sharp, as Arne Slot’s men produced a strong performance. The first half ended goalless, but the home side took the lead in the 74th minute through Dominik Szoboszlai’s free kick.
City quickly responded. Ten minutes later, Guardiola’s men found the equalizer. The visitors then completed the comeback in added time, with Erling Haaland scoring from the penalty spot.
The match ended in controversy. Rayan Cherki thought he had scored from a counterattack near the halfway line. However, VAR ruled out the goal and awarded a free kick to City.
The incident also led to Szoboszlai’s red card. The referee judged that he had pulled Haaland from behind during the breakaway. The Hungarian midfielder will now miss Liverpool’s next league match against Sunderland.
That win was massive for City as they maintain the gap with Arsenal to six points for now. This means the Citizens are still within touching distance of competing for the league title this season.
