Manchester City‘s title challenge faces a slight hit following a disappointing draw against Sunderland on Thursday. Pep Guardiola’s men still sit second in the current standings, but they’re now dropping four points behind the Gunners.
Man City Dropped Points in the Title Race Following Draw vs Sunderland
The Citizens were playing catch-up this midweek as their title rival, Arsenal, took a five-point lead following their win over Aston Villa. Man City were keen on regaining that two-point gap from Mikel Arteta’s side, so grabbing three points was a must.
However, despite their recent good run of form, Man City were facing a tough battle against the Black Cats, who have been having a solid season so far. Playing in front of their home crowd, Sunderland were determined to at least snatch a point against their opponent.
Despite City’s dominant ball possession and attacking approach, they struggle to break down the home team’s defense. Until the final whistle was blown, no goals were scored by either team, forcing both sides to settle for a goalless draw.
It was a disappointing result for Man City as they are now four points adrift from league leader Arsenal in the Premier League standings. Nevertheless, the season is long, and the Citizens still have more than enough time to catch up with their rival.
