Manchester United are inching closer to signing Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha this summer, but face competition from several Premier League clubs.
The Brazilian, 25, has been a standout performer for Wolves, scoring 14 goals and providing four assists in the Premier League, emerging as a rare bright spot in an otherwise sorry season. With his movement, ball control, movement, flair and goalscoring ability, he has been a menace for the Premier League defenders.
Thus, it is easy to see why so many clubs are keen to sign the forward. Any club wanting to sign Matheus Cunha must activate his £62.5 million release clause. Manchester United are reportedly hopeful of agreeing terms in May, as INEOS eyes wholesale changes to the squad after the club’s worst-ever Premier League season.
Newcastle United have been the Red Devils’ main competitor for the South American’s signature, but Cunha seems to have been swayed by the prospect of playing a key role in Ruben Amorim’s squad overhaul.

It has been well-documented this season where Man United’s major problems lies.
Both strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have failed to supply goals consistently, while Marcus Rashford has been farmed out on loan to Aston Villa. The club’s top scorer in the Premier League, Bruno Fernandes, has managed eight goals. Thus, the 20-time English champions desperately need a spark in attack next season.
INEOS appear to have set their sights on Cunha to be that man for Ruben Amorim’s side. The 25-year-old has been on fire this season, helping Wolves to retain their top-flight status. And he has helped the Wanderers do the league double over Man United this season, auditioning well in front of Amorim.
After Wolves’ 1-0 win over United at Old Trafford, thanks to a stunning second-half free-kick from substitute Pablo Sarabia, Amorim was seen talking with Cunha in the tunnel. The Portuguese tactician appears to be a big admirer of the South American’s talents and wants to bring him to Old Trafford this summer.
With Cunha seemingly giving a go ahead, the onus is now on United to trigger his £62.5 million release clause next month before other clubs starting circling.
