Newcastle fans give their verdict after being asked ‘Are you Eddie Howe in or Eddie Howe out?’ by Twitter user HLTCO.

Some have expressed a frustrating season marked by inconsistent league form, injuries, challenging recruitment, and PSR constraints, most of which mentioned by Howe himself.

And he’s experienced some remarkable achievements since being appointed, from keeping them up the team in 2022, to qualifying for the Champions League twice, then guided them to their first major trophy in decades (the EFL Cup in 2025), leading to a predominantly supportive stance from fans towards him.

While match-going supporters and season ticket holders back him in the stadium, there has been a fair bit of noise on social media, and louder online criticism does often overlooked what support shown in the ground.

Newcastle fans following me, I’m curious…

Are you Eddie Howe in or Eddie Howe out? I’ve seen a fair bit of chatter saying that fans are turning on him, is that the case? If so, I’d be genuinely interested to know why. It’s always better to ask those who watch every week.

As mentioned, Newcastle fans give their verdict after being asked ‘Are you Eddie Howe in or Eddie Howe out?’ by Twitter user HLTCO…

@AdamP1242: Still need to finish off the season first to see where Newcastle United is at in my opinion, desperately need some form of European football after spending over £200m in the summer

@AdamClery: Online it always feels very split but if you ask match-going fans they’ll say the support for him in the stadium is unwavering.

@NUSCuk: Howe in. League form has been frustrating but there are extenuating circumstances (DoF resigned early in summer, Isak). Semi final of the Carabao Cup and through in the Champions League. We now have the off field structure in place (CEO, DoF) to push on, they need to deliver.

@talks_tyne: Think the ceiling has been hit, however I don’t see a benefit in sacking him. Best case scenario would be he takes Eng job and we move on. He’s had a tough ride with how the summer went and a game every 3 days but there’s just no development of the team

@marcjobling_: Personally, out. Because you can see the regression + questionable decisions. It feels like the end. But it feels dirty to say it out loud because, for some fans, that cup win gives him immunity.

@lShadzi: To stay, of course, he has taken us so far in the last 4 years, this season and the summer have been a mess aswell as no constancy but I trust he will get it in order.

@HowayHarky: In, for now. Give him to summer and see where we stand. He’s delivered a trophy faster than all expected, but refuses to make changes tactically in games before we’re in losing positions. He’s hamstrung by poor decisions above him, regarding spending/transfers. Want it to work.

@TheMilburnStand: Season ticket holder here. Howe in, I don’t know a single person who goes to games (home or away) who is Howe out. He is the best manager in my lifetime (I’m 44) and we’d be mad to change. He’s exceptional.

@Im_RobM: Depends where we are come May, but questions certainly being asked.

@walla81: In for me. Still got credit in the bank, although improvements need to be made. Losing a world class striker and your best player is never going to be easy and the summer recruitment wasn’t ideal. He’s always turned it round before and sure he will again.

@JamesAd1970: In. I am 55 and in my lifetime have made 8 Semi Finals. Tonight is our 3rd under Eddie. We have outperformed considering revenue and wages. Every manager gets criticised – Keegan and Robson no exception – doesn’t mean they should be sacked.

@Jamieee83: Out in the summer

@EvanQuick: I’ve seen a lot of negativity towards him recently, primarily on social media. Support in the ground is still present for him, and for me I think the idea of sacking him shouldn’t even be entertained. I’d give him a calendar year at least (2 more windows) to see what he can do.

@ChrisHunt20: In. Needs to drop the loyalty/stubbornness to players who haven’t performed consistently. Like the Mackems have done with Adingra… if a signing doesn’t work then hold your hands up and get rid. Willock/Tripps have stayed 2yrs too long, and same will happen with Elanga/Ramsey.

@NeilRobbo1106: It’s just noise on social media , most are still very much behind him , especially in the stadium

@andysmith199two: In atm but his credit is running out his inability to react and change tactics ingame is a big concern doesnt seem to have a plan b and in a press conference said something along the lines of “if you have a plan b you haven’t worked on plan a enough” which is another concern

@LiamDonaldson89: Not in or out but his failure to be able to change styles or alter the way we play in tight games especially ones where we have been non existant is becoming frustrating. I think he has probably taking us as far as he possibly can though.

@NUFCJS: When he first came in, his football was fast and direct. Teams worked it out after a season yet he insisted on not changing his tactics. He refuses to veer from his flat midfield 3 that’s been found out on numerous occasions. Seems awkwardly stubborn, tactically and in transfers

@johnnyarm1982: The decision has to made in the summer, unless our form picks up massively we’ll be lucky to finish in the top 10 & that inevitably will see him gone, I’d be surprised if they accept anything but UEFA Cup

@gillybat1: Match going fans are all for him at games, Online is a cesspit of over entitled fans mainly, like i imagine all clubs have. Baring a disaster end to the campaign, he will be here next season. He should have questions to answer, but sacking isn’t the answer right now.

@yackie_999: Howe in. He’s got enough credit in the bank to get next season. If we aren’t substantially better next season, both on the pitch, and in the transfer market, i’ll be leaning more towards Howe out, as we’ve been pretty woeful this season and looked pretty devoid of ideas

@tweddsz: Howe out (end of the season), lackluster signings that I blame him for personally, lackluster performances onfield that I blame him for, shown twice now that he can’t cope with 2 fixtures a week. Struggles to adapt when tactics are failing in games, I could go on and on tbh

@BillDixon1958: 100% IN. I’ve been going since the 60’s and he’s up there with the best. The job he’s done considering where we were when he arrived has been incredible. Hopefully we now have the people in place to support him.

@BurstOfTheStar: In. He’s definitely going through a key period now though. He needs to start evolving the team in a new direction tactically otherwise things will continue fizzle out.

@GThirlaway: IN. When he first came here we were certain for relegation, he pulled that around and kept us in the league. Since then we’ve been in the CL twice and won our first trophy in a lifetime. He’s got enough credit in the bank for me, for this season atleast. But that just my opinion.

@joesocial001: Howe in all the way. He’s delivered 2 champions league campaigns, this year being the furthest in club history. 3 cup semi finals , 2 finals and a cup win. Our most successful manager ever, why would anyone want him out
