Nicolas Gonzalez was the super sub for Atletico.

Atletico Madrid will go into their Champions League tie with Tottenham on a high after they claimed a dramatic late 3-2 win over Real Sociedad in LaLiga.

Alexander Sorloth’s volley against his former club gave Atletico a fifth-minute lead, though that was quickly extinguished as Carlos Soler found the top-left corner in superb fashion.

Nicolas Gonzalez slotted home in the 67th minute from Antoine Griezmann’s clever backheel to restore Atletico’s advantage, yet Sociedad responded immediately through a rocket from the edge of the area from Mikel Oyarzabal.

But substitute Gonzalez’s second settled the game nine minutes from time as he met Matteo Ruggeri’s left-wing cross with a fine header into the bottom-left corner.

While Atletico have no hope of bridging the 13-point gap to leaders Barcelona, who won 1-0 at Athletic Club thanks to a brilliant Lamine Yamal goal, they are three points ahead of fourth-placed Villarreal in the race to finish third. Villarreal host Elche on Sunday.

Elsewhere in LaLiga, relegation-threatened Mallorca drew 2-2 at Osasuna in a game both sides finished with 10 men. There was heartbreak for 10-man Levante, as a 94th-minute equaliser saw Girona snatch a 1-1 draw against LaLiga’s second-bottom club.

Juventus and Como continue Champions League push

Juventus claimed an emphatic win to boost their hopes of a top-four finish in Serie A.

Andrea Cambiaso, Khephren Thuram, Kenan Yildiz and Jeremie Boga were all on target in the second half as the Bianconeri thrashed bottom club Pisa 4-0.

They are a point behind fourth-placed Roma and fifth-placed Como, who continued their push for Champions League football with a 2-1 win at Cagliari. Lucas Da Cunha settled the contest for Como, scoring what proved to be the winner in the 76th minute after earlier teeing up Martin Baturina for the opener.

Atalanta are five points off the top four despite a second-half fightback at Udinese.

Gianluca Scamacca scored twice in the space of four minutes, his second coming 11 minutes from the end of normal time as Atalanta came from 2-0 down to claim a point.

Leverkusen and Stuttgart drop points crucial points

A 92nd-minute Arthur Chaves own goal gave RB Leipzig a 2-1 win over Augsburg, who had earlier missed a penalty, and results elsewhere made it a very positive day for Ole Werner’s side.

Fellow Champions League chasers Stuttgart were held to a 2-2 draw by struggling Mainz, who scored a 91st-minute equaliser through Danny da Costa to claim a point. Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, were left to settle for a 3-3 draw at Freiburg despite twice coming from behind to lead. Matthias Ginter rescued a point for Freiburg four minutes from the end of normal time.

It means Leipzig are level on points with fourth-placed Stuttgart, while Leverkusen are three points behind in sixth.

Hoffenheim are two points ahead of Stuttgart and Leipzig after beating bottom club Heidenheim 4-2 on the road thanks in part to an Alexander Prass double.

Borussia Dortmund cut the gap to runaway leaders Bayern Munich back to 11 points by winning 2-1 at 10-man Cologne, and Hamburg were winners by the same scoreline against second-bottom Wolfsburg, all three goals coming from the penalty spot.

In Ligue 1, Mason Greenwood scored the only goal of the game as Marseille beat Toulouse to bolster their Champions League ambitions. Strasbourg’s European challenge was checked by a 0-0 draw at struggling Auxerre, and Angers won 1-0 at Nantes.
