Nottingham Forest and West Ham make contact to sign Chelsea’s Filip Jorgensen

Nottingham Forest have now made contact to sign a £50k-a-week Chelsea player, joining West Ham United in the race for his signature.

Forest keen to strengthen survival push with new signings

Forest moved seven points clear of West Ham courtesy of a 2-1 victory at the London Stadium in their last Premier League match, but they were brought back down to earth in the third round of the FA Cup against Wrexham.

Phil Parkinson’s side progressed to the fourth round with a penalty shoot-out victory, following a 3-3 draw in regular time, and Sean Dyche criticised his side’s performance, saying: “The first half was unacceptable. The players know and some individuals certainly know.”

Dyche also added: “They all knock on your door and say ‘why aren’t I playing’ – well the evidence is quite honestly there for some, not for all.

“But that’s what football is. You’ve got to train and prepare right because when your time comes, you’ve got to be ready and there were too many not ready in the first half.”

Being knocked out of the FA Cup by a Championship side perhaps underlines the lack of quality in Dyche’s squad, and the Tricky Trees are looking to strengthen their survival push by making some new additions.

Following Arnaud Kalimuendo’s loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt, bringing in a new striker is on the agenda, and Olympiacos star Mehdi Taremi has been identified as Nottingham Forest’s top target.

Signing a new goalkeeper is also of interest, according to journalist Mustafa Karatas (via Sport Witness), with it being revealed Forest have now made contact to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen.

West Ham United have made an approach to sign the £50k-a-week shot-stopper, with AFC Bournemouth also keen. However, his number one priority is to seal a move to Besiktas.

“Commanding” Jorgensen needs to leave Chelsea

The 23-year-old has been unable to displace Robert Sanchez in the starting XI in the Premier League, predominantly featuring in the cup competitions this season, so he may need to leave the Blues this month for the good of his career.

The one-time Denmark international is still young, and has plenty of time to fulfill his potential, with journalist Josh Bunting of the belief he could make it to the top level.

When given the opportunity this season, the 6 foot 3 colossus has looked solid, making two saves and recording a 7.3 SofaScore match rating against Manchester City earlier this month.

Nottingham Forest are determined to sign a new goalkeeper this month, with Matz Sels arguably in the latter stages of his career, and Jorgensen could be a savvy long-term addition to the squad.
