Mazraoui has forced his way back into the reckoning, following his Africa Cup of Nations involvement with Morocco, as the hosts ended up reaching the final.
He has played in six of our seven games since being available again for selection, only being an unused substitute for the 1-1 draw at West Ham United.
After coming on as a 24th-minute substitute for Luke Shaw, who was ill, in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, he operated at left-back.
The Newcastle clash represented his first start since AFCON and he played on the right-hand side of the defence.
Carrick is likely to provide a team news update in Friday’s press conference.
