It’s reported that Sheffield Wednesday players could go on STRIKE after being told that the wages for July won’t be paid on time.

Andy Giddings tweeted on Wednesday afternoon (30th July): “Per sources, we understand communication has been made to Sheffield Wednesday players informing them that they will not be paid on time for their July wages.

“We believe there is a possibility they could refuse to play as a consequence. Wages for March, May and June were previously not paid on time.”

1867News tweeted: “If the players don’t get paid tomorrow (which they won’t) then they will be refusing to play the friendly against Burnley this weekend and are discussing going on strike against Leicester in front of the worldwide TV audience.

“Proud of them for taking a stand. It needs to happen for everyone’s sake and we all need to do what we have in our power to do. More to follow… #SWFC”

Would you support the players if they went on strike? #SWFC

Earlier in the same afternoon: Rob Staton wrote that BBC Sheffield were sent this email today and have been given permission to share it.

It read: “Dear Team, as the wife and mother of Sheffield Wednesday season ticket holders I would just like to give Mr Chanseri an insight into what my family are going through.

“The club is part of their life. It’s means something to them, a ritual started by my husband’s grandad, carried down through generations. It isn’t a passing phase, a slight interest, a pet project. They are not “customers” as I think he once said.

“Football is a way of life. Everything is geared to Saturday afternoons. A cherished routine…. Setting off from home at 12pm. Parking up just after 1. Planning which food outlet to visit. Perhaps placing a bet on first goal scorer. Years of watching various players come and go. Highs and lows. Great match memories and some they long to forget.

“Football is their religion, Saturday is their Sabbath, Hillsborough is their church. Parishioners singing the club’s hymns with pride.

“When the team win: euphoria. Whenever the team loses, my husband and son return home in a somber mood. I liken it to a bereavement and, now, throughout this awful period of uncertainty, the grief felt by them is truly unbearable.

“Over 70 years of family memories has been tainted by this debacle and I wonder if Mr Chanseri understands or even cares? The sound of his silence over the past weeks is deafening.

“Will he, won’t he sell? It seems a game where he sets the rules. He sits, presiding at the alter, spewing sermons at past fans forums. Where is he now?

“A desperately sad situation and as Chairman and owner, Chanseri needs to make the correct decision-not for himself but for the lifelong “parishioners” who have dedicated their souls in supporting and believing in their club.”

Sheffield City Council reduces capacity of Sheffield Wednesday’s North Stand to 0 amid concerns

Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust said: “To clarify our position ahead of the Leicester away fixture:

“The Trust’s view is that there is little point in staying away from this game, as the ticket money does not go to our club.

“Instead, we believe this is an opportunity to take a visible stand – live on national television – and show our disdain for the perilous situation our owner has placed us in.

“This topic will be openly discussed at tonight’s public Q&A, which can be viewed online via the WTID X channel. Full details of planned protest actions will be announced in due course.”

1867News wrote: “I’ve seen a few people calling for boycotting the away matches to avoid putting money into Chansiri’s pocket. For clarity, in EFL Championship matches, the home club keeps the money from away ticket sales, as they manage the matchday operations and set ticket prices.

“It’s still our club and we are still supporters of it. Let’s not lose what little we have left. #SWFC”

A statement via the club website said: “Sheffield Wednesday can confirm that, following a recent meeting with the local Safety Advisory Group, Sheffield City Council has today issued a Prohibition Notice preventing the use of the North Stand at Hillsborough.

“The club are continuing to work with the Safety Advisory Group to satisfy their concerns such that the North Stand remains open.

“Additional information is currently being obtained, and we will provide further updates to our supporters at the earliest possible opportunity.”

Sheffield Wednesday players could go on STRIKE after being told July wages won’t be paid on time

In June, Chansiri said sorry and spoke further regarding a potential sale, saying: “I take full responsibility for being unable to fulfil my current obligations, but a further obligation I have is to ensure that if the club is sold, it is sold to the right people with the right credentials who can sustain Sheffield Wednesday and take the club forward.

“I understand our fans are not happy and wish for me to sell, which some have said when contacting me direct. All I ask is please do not believe everything you read in the media or on social media. I repeat that I am willing to sell but the deal must be correct on all fronts – it is not just about the price.

“I have been seriously engaging in looking for investment from new parties, and continue to do so to quickly remedy this situation.

“I also understand the frustrations of everyone at this difficult time. I can only apologise to our people once again and assure you all that I am doing everything I can, every minute of every day, to ensure the situation is resolved in the best possible way for now and the future.”

This is how fans reacted amid reports the Sheffield Wednesday players could go on STRIKE after being told July wages won’t be paid on time…

@kelwillphill: Absolutely disgusting @efl step in right now! Going to be embarrassing for the @efl product when games are being called off due to refusal to play. I stand with the players and staff fully on this #swfc

@stacyreed: We need to 100% back the players and staff with this. It will make a huge statement and hopefully speed up the process of getting rid of the lunatic! 👏👏

@MattHarris6: 100% support the players going on strike. Chansiri isn’t listening, if we don’t play matches maybe he will. He can’t afford to run the club. He needs to sell #swfc #enoughisenough

@blades_sufc_1: Best thing you can do as fans is boycott stop putting money in his pockets dont buy merchandise, food, beer ect I know you’ll get the odd nob heads that will sit there and say ‘im no depriving my kids of football shirts’ blah blah blah but u need to start acting not just tweeting

@ConnorTSWFC: Every Wednesday fan should back them if they refuse to play. We need a mass walkout

@markb73: @EFL wake up and see what this person is doing to the lively hoods of genuine workers who are struggling as it is please step in and do something at least this man is swanning off on holidays while staff are not getting paid #EnoughIsEnough

@RobWaugh1: Beginning to feel like administration is on the horizon. Would anyone buy the club now when it might be available relatively cheaply in the near future?

@GeoffSWFC: PLEASE lads, refuse to play. We are behind you #swfc

@Madowl123567: We all got stick together as one no more having a go at each other the fans ,the none footballing staff and the coaches staff and players all should do a protest it’s time act now we all in this together and get Chansiri out of the football club the gloves are off #swfc

@zwildswfc: Imagine the scenes if players warm up, walk out play 5 minutes and then walk back down tunnel at Leicester 😂 live on sky. That would go worldwide #swfc get em on strike @DishonBernard

@robinwelsh1: 4:30pm on Sunday 10th August, whistle goes live on Sky and every single player walks off. We can dream #swfc
