Tottenham Hotspur fought back from two goals down to claim a point against Manchester City in the Premier League.
Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo fired City in front before half-time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and looked to be cruising to victory before a second-half Dominic Solanke brace brought Spurs back into the game.
The result will give Spurs fans something to shout about after a dismal league campaign so far, but it will do little to ease the mounting pressure on boss Thomas Frank.
For Pep Guardiola’s side, who were looking to reinstate the four-point gap between them and league leaders Arsenal, they remain in second but are now six points behind their title rivals
Early misery for Spurs
City were ahead after just 11 minutes. After Yves Bissouma was dispossessed on the half-way line, Erling Haaland found Cherki who took a couple of touches before sweeping home from just inside the box.
Five minutes later, Haaland squandered a good chance when, surrounded by a couple of Spurs defenders while bearing down on goal, the Norwegian lifted the ball over Vicario but the ball looped onto the roof of the net.
With Frank again cutting an increasingly frustrated figure on the touchline, City doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time when an under-hit Tottenham clearance culminated in the ball dropping to Bernardo Silva.
The City captain fed Semenyo and, with time and space to pick his spot, the Ghana international arrowed an effort into the corner to give Guardiola’s men a commanding lead going into the break.
A valiant comeback
After boos rang out as the half-time whistle sounded at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Destiny Udogie came close to giving the home fans something to cheer early in the second-half, but his fierce strike was impressively tipped over by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Moments later, they did have a goal to celebrate when Solanke bundled home to halve the deficit with well over 35 minutes left to play.
It sparked Spurs into life. On 70 minutes, they levelled when Conor Gallagher’s cross was flicked in ingeniously by Solanke.
The England striker was ahead of the ball when the cross came in, but somehow managed to hook the ball up and over Donnarumma with the heel of his boot.
Tottenham were now firmly in the ascendency. Substitute Wilson Odobert drew a stop from the City keeper before the towering Italian again had to be on hand to palm away Xavi Simons’ goal-bound effort.
City regained control of the game going into the latter stages but there were no further goals and the points were shared.
