Sunday thoughts – Small dogs and music

Morning, and happy Sunday to you all.

There’s really nothing going on today. Ethan Nwaneri was a late sub in England U21s 3-2 final win over Germany in the European championships, so well done to him, and to Irish international Lee Carsley who is the man in charge there. Former young Gunners Brook Norton-Cuffy and Omari Hutchinson were also involved, even if the latter blotted his copybook by spending time at Chelsea, but let’s blame that primarily on his agent. Whoever he is.

It’s going to be July soon. That’s when stuff happens. Until then, there’s nothing happening. People understand Real Sociedad only want to sell Martin Zubimendi in the next accounting year, but what if that also applies to Disgustingly Sweet Energy Drink Leipzig and Sporting? Is the reason we haven’t pulled the trigger on Sesko or Gyokeres not because we haven’t made up our minds, but because Colin from Accounts insists that no deal can happen until he can book the funds for 2025?

Colin, you little devil!

By the way, if you’ve never watched the show Colin from Accounts, please rectify this at once. It is Australian, funny and charming. And it has a dog. It’s a very small dog though, and as you’ll know my preference is large dogs. I feel like the responsibility of owning a pet and being responsible for its life and very existence is a significant thing, but what you never have to worry about when you have a German Shepherd is that you might accidentally stand on your dog and do it an injury. Our next door neighbours used to have a tiny little chihuahua type thing, and honestly, it was so small it could have been plucked off the ground and eaten by any medium sized bird who fancied a snack. I couldn’t live with that kind of stress, so give me a big dog every day. However, still watch Colin from Accounts, it’s good and I think you’ll like it.

I watched some Glastonbury last night. Raye, oof – what a voice. Ezra Collective, with their Arsenal connection in the shape of Femi Koleoso, were just brilliant. The music, the vibe, the outlook. We need more of that kind of thing in this world. And actually, it’s a great illustration of how, if you actually get your head out of your laptop or your phone, people are out there doing good things and not at loggerheads 24-7.

I’m not saying there should be zero laptop or zero phone, but once you’ve read Arseblog in the morning and consumed the Arsenal content you need, there’s a lot out there that’s good, with fun, excellent people who aren’t angry and raging and furious about everything all of the time. I can’t tell anyone else what to do, I would never presume to do that, but I can tell you that once I left some of the social media stuff behind, my own head is in a much better place. And there’s a lot to be said for that. Maybe something to consider on a quiet summer Sunday.

Speaking of which, I got a load of charcoal this week. Today looks like it’s going to be a warm, dry day, and I’m gonna get some meat and spend the day in the garden cooking on the Weber and maybe drinking a beer or two. I’m lucky that this is my life. Wherever you are today, I hope you can find some fun and some peace with the people you love and care about.

Back tomorrow with more and an Arsecast Extra. Look after yourselves.
