Tottenham Hotspur have announced that wide attacker Wilson Odobert will require an operation after suffering a major knee problem.
The France Under-21 international was hurt during the opening period of Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at home against Newcastle United.
In an official update, the north London side explained that Odobert will meet a specialist next week, after which a surgical procedure will be carried out before he begins a recovery programme under the supervision of the club’s medical team.
Injury adds to Spurs’ growing concerns
The setback continues a worrying sequence of long-term absences affecting the squad in recent months.
January saw several senior players sidelined, including attackers Mohammed Kudus and Richarlison, midfielders Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall, and defender Ben Davies.
Creative midfielder James Maddison has also been unavailable since August after sustaining a similar ligament injury.
Difficult season on and off the pitch
Odobert arrived from Burnley in 2024 in a deal believed to be worth around £25 million.
During the current campaign, the 21-year-old has featured 33 times in all competitions, earning starts in 10 Premier League matches and appearing from the beginning in six of the club’s eight Champions League group encounters.
Tottenham currently sit 16th in the league standings, only five points clear of the bottom three, following a poor run of results that resulted in the dismissal of Thomas Frank after eight months in charge.
