One of Tottenham Hotspur’s most important players is now refusing to sign a contract extension while Thomas Frank remains in charge…
Fresh update emerges on Frank’s future
Earlier today, journalist Ben Jacobs made it clear there are major doubts over Frank’s future as Tottenham boss, as a result of the 2-1 defeat against West Ham United at the weekend, although he is expected to keep his job for one more game at least.
Since then, the Dane has confirmed he’s held positive talks with the Spurs hierarchy, saying: “I’ve just been feeling the trust along the way. I’ve said that in every press meeting. I had lunch with Nick [Beucher], Vinai [Venkatesham] and Johan [Lange] today and it was all good. [Speculation] is part of the media circus and I can only think about winning against Dortmund.”
However, there have been reports some members of the squad are now starting to turn against the 52-year-old, and one of Tottenham’s most important players is refusing to sign a new contract while Frank remains in his job.
That is according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who told TEAMtalk: “Tottenham risk seeing their fears of losing Van de Ven intensify unless a new elite manager is in place by next summer.
“The Dutch defender has not yet agreed a new deal and is believed to have delayed the issue while Thomas Frank has been in charge.
“He has been one of the few players to show spells of consistency and decent form this season, but Tottenham face losing him if their season is not salvaged as he has been unconvinced by the project.”
Losing Van de Ven could be major blow for Tottenham
Jones reveals two clubs that are very hard to turn down are in the race for the centre-back, namely Real Madrid and Liverpool, and it is no surprise, given that he has been one of Spurs’ only bright sparks this season.
Frank personally singled out the £90k-a-week defender for high praise near the end of October, saying: “Yeah, very happy with Micky. I think he has been brilliant for the club since he signed and he has taken some steps up this season.

Thomas Frank is under serious pressure
“He actually defends even better. He is still very good on the ball, he added the goals and the headed goals, which I am very happy with. He’s a threat from set-pieces.”
Although Tottenham have been criticised for their negative style of play this season, they have kept four clean sheets since the start of December, with the Dutchman and Romero forming a partnership at the heart of defence.
Losing Van de Ven could be a major blow for Spurs, but Frank should be sacked for his results, rather than the threat of players jumping ship, with Tottenham 14th in the Premier League table and out of both the EFL Cup and FA Cup.
