It’s been quite the Thursday in terms of updates on manager talk at Spurs, Brentford, Plymouth, Middlesbrough, Bristol City, QPR, Cardiff.

After it went relatively quiet earlier this week, and with Fixture Release Day around the corner for the Premier League and EFL, clubs are stepping up their preparations.

Here’s is the latest of what a number of journalists are saying, with still so much needing to be sorted going into the weekend…

ON TOTTENHAM AND BRENTFORD:

Ben Jacobs tweeted (1:10pm): “Thomas Frank’s move to Spurs is now all agreed with compensation in the region of £10m. Should be formalised within 48 hours.

“As @talkSPORT revealed earlier, Frank agreement was done earlier in the week, but ongoing discussions over his backroom staff.

“Justin Cochrane has decided to join Frank as his assistant despite Brentford pushing for him to stay, and even adding him to their shortlist to replace Frank.

“Scott Parker and Kieran McKenna two names of interest to Brentford. 🐝”

Fabrizio Romano: “Thomas Frank can be considered as new Tottenham head coach, here we go now confirmed.

“Justin Cochrane will also join as assistant with Brentford due to receive compensation worth over £10m.

“Justin Cochrane has now approved contract as new Spurs assistant coach.

“Cochrane will leave Brentford despite club efforts to keep him as he wants to join Thomas Frank at Tottenham.

“He will continue his involvement with the England national team coaching staff.”

David Ornstein: “Tottenham Hotspur to complete Thomas Frank appointment after agreement struck to take Justin Cochrane as assistant. Deal held up by talks over 43yo – wanted at Brentford + elsewhere but opted for #THFC. Joined by Chris Haslam & Joe Newton”

ON PLYMOUTH:

John Percy (1:15pm): Tom Cleverley is in pole position to be the new Plymouth Argyle manager. Cleverley is in advanced talks to take over at the League One club. Former Manchester United midfielder was sacked by Watford last month #pafc

Anthony Joseph (2:36pm): “Plymouth Argyle are close to appointing Tom Cleverley as their next manager.

“The former Watford boss had his final interview yesterday and impressed the club hierarchy.

“It’s understood terms are being finalised and the club are hoping to appoint him soon.”

Ben Fisher, of The Guardian, said: Tom Cleverley ‘has been identified as Plymouth’s No 1 target after final interviews with four candidates on Wednesday.

“Discussions are believed to have been held with Jack Wilshere and Des Buckingham but neither made the final stages. The St Mirren manager, Stephen Robinson, is thought to have made the last round of talks.”

ON BRISTOL CITY AND MIDDLESBROUGH:

Ron Walker: “Looks like there won’t be a new Bristol City head coach in place this week – but never say never.

“No panic at Ashton Gate, Norwich’s negotiations with former boss Liam Manning meant a full recruitment process – which is still ongoing – couldn’t formally begin until he moved on. Edwards, Struber and another un-named foreign manager are the three shortlisted.

“Edwards reportedly of significant interest to Middlesbrough, but is still part of the interview process at Bristol City.

“Belgian boss Felice Mazzu is not in the running.”

Alan Nixon: Rob Edwards is now the clear favourite for the Middlesbrough job. The former Luton manager will take over from Michael Carrick barring any late snags.

ON QPR:

West London Sport: “Julien Stéphan looks set to take over as QPR head coach.

“Talks have taken place with the 44-year-old Frenchman and an agreement in principle now appears to be in place for him to take the job.”

Le Parisien journalist Marc Mechenoua: “Julien Stéphan has agreed a two-year deal to take charge over EFL Championship side Queens Park Rangers.”

“Very interesting coach” 👀

“Connects with players” 🤝

“Starts well…” 👊

“When he’s hit the buffers he’s really struggled” 😩

ON CARDIFF:

Paul Abbandonato (11:06am): Right, we finally have movement. Cardiff City FC have offered the manager’s job to Brian Barry-Murphy. There’s a slight hold-up at the Leicester end which they’re trying to resolve. Full story on Wales Online. Seems a very exciting appointment to me”

Glen Williams (11:09am): “We are told Cardiff have made an offer for Brian Barry-Murphy to be the next manager, but not agreed just yet.”

Alex Crook (11:43am): “Brian Barry-Murphy has been offered the Cardiff City job. Move subject to Leicester agreeing to let their assistant manager leave.”

Rob Dorsett (2:23pm): “Leicester assistant manager Brian Barry-Murphy on verge of becoming new manager of Cardiff after the two clubs agreed a compensation package.

“Personal terms on Barry-Murphy’s new contract with Cardiff are at an advanced stage, with an announcement expected in the coming days.”

EXCLUSIVE: Cardiff are on the verge of appointing former Manchester City academy coach Brian Barry-Murphy as their new manager 🚨
