Greg Vanney said his LA Galaxy team must find solutions to halt their winless run after they were beaten 1-0 by Sporting Kansas City in the MLS on Sunday.
The decisive moment came in the 13th minute when Galaxy captain Maya Yoshida turned the ball into his own net from Daniel Salloi’s cross into the box.
Indeed, Kerry Zavagnin’s side became the first team in MLS history to win a match without attempting a shot on target.
The Galaxy are off to the worst start in MLS history for a defending MLS Cup champion, picking up just three points from their first 11 games of the season.
They had their chances in the contest, though. Yoshida almost made amends for his earlier error with a header before Marco Reus struck the crossbar with a free-kick late on.
Vanney’s team ended the contest with an expected goals (xG) total of 1.39 from their 11 shots, but only one of those was on target.

Vanney revealed his frustrations after failing to get their first win on the board, drawing parallels from the 2023 season that are similar to their struggles this term.
The Galaxy went seven games without a win at the start of the campaign two years ago under Vanney, picking up their first victory against Austin FC on matchday eight.
Vanney was able to lead his team to a 13th-placed finish in the Western Conference, and is hopeful he can complete a similar comeback this time around.
“There are parallels to a few points in my career, 2023 being one of them. Others where you get, I don’t want to say a perfect storm, but you get a series of events that, when put together, become challenging,” Vanney said.
“And the guys, you know, we’ve got to find solutions inside of that. On the field, we’ve got to find solutions in every way. That’s why I say every year is a journey.
“Every year is different. It presents new challenges every single year. This year has provided plenty of them from the start after winning the championship and having to clear out some guys to injuries to performance stuff. There’s been plenty of things.
“Our job here as a collective group, as a team, [for] everybody, is to find solutions, even when challenges present themselves. So far, yeah, we haven’t found those solutions.
“We’re going to keep fighting for it and keep looking at ways to build our way out of it, as we did in 2023 and other years that I was involved in tough years.”
