How Do I Know I’m Buying the “New” Kirkland Golf Ball?

Which version of the Kirkland Golf Ball is the right one? It’s one of the most common questions we’re getting right now, and it makes a lot of sense. ‘Cause not only has Costco’s curriculum confused the hell out of you, they’ve confused the hell out of us. There has been so many versions it’s hard to keep up with.

So today we’re gonna give you the comprehensive breakdown of every single version. It’s gonna include package changes, alignment, markings, and performance differences.

We’re gonna start with version one or what we call the unicorn. That was the four-piece ball that we tested directly, head to head against the Pro V1, and it pretty much kicked its ass.

That one has a black and green box, and that’s the one that was discontinued after the Titleist lawsuit. Next up, version 1.5. This fall was released in 2019 and it only lasted about 1.5 minutes. Why? Because it was defective after a single shot. We saw the entire cover tear off and they pulled it from the shelves. So you’re probably not gonna find those, but if you do find a gold box, don’t play it.

Next up is version 3.0. This one was released in 2021, and for those of you who remember, it had a black box with silver stripes on the side. It lasted a couple of years, but this is the one that you might remember spun way too much for way too many golfers.

It also had two Chevron markings on either side of the alignment aid. Alright, last but not least, the most current version, and this is where some of the confusion comes in. It also says version 3.0 on the box, but here’s what you need to look for. A black box with a red stripe down the side, not a silver one.

The performance of the new ball we just tested is up to par with many major brands, and it’s likely to be one of the most widely available in the store you’ll find.

So once again, look for the black box, red stripe.

Don’t mess with any of the rest.
