Your Action Plan
What: Your goal is to learn how to handle three difficult bunker lies: a high lip, a deep footprint, and a buried ball.
Why: Being prepared for challenging bunker shots allows you to minimize damage to your score and play with confidence from the sand, no matter the lie.
How:
For a High Lip: Take a club with more loft, such as a 58 or 60-degree wedge, to ensure the ball gets up and over the lip without changing your normal swing.
For a Deep Footprint: Play the ball back in your stance, and add an early wrist hinge to hit down on the ball with a positive, aggressive swing.
For a Buried Lie: Be very aggressive, aiming to get the ball out first and worrying about distance second.
Know When to Take a Penalty: If the lie is unplayable, don’t be afraid to take an unplayable lie penalty to get out of the bunker and minimize strokes.
