Despite working in the golf business, I’m a recreational golfer, just like most of you. I’m lucky if I play once a month. That said, I enjoy new gear as much as the rest of you and have the unique opportunity to try out new stuff here and there while holding down my real job ensuring MyGolfSpy always has fresh content.
Sure, I’m more of a shoe guy. But I can appreciate a new set of irons or a sneaky-good bag. Here are the pieces of gear I tried this year that I really enjoyed.
1. Powerbilt Atlas MB Irons
The picture doesn’t do these justice. Man, are they pretty. And they feel just as good, too. Am I good enough to play them? Nope. Do I bring them along anyway just for fun? You betcha. There are a lot of small brands out there with good stuff … I’d put Powerbilt up with the best of them.
2. Callaway Elyte Mini Driver

I’ve had this club in the bag since it came out this year. For most the year, it has fully replaced my driver. The fact that I can get enough distance out of it with the smaller head and shorter shaft has been great for my game. More fairways means more duffed wedges, right?
3. Sunday Golf Loma S-Class

Who knew a little par-3 bag could be so pretty? I typically bring my full bag to the range or the short course. But after living with this little guy for the year, I won’t go back to a full-size bag. For those two specific use cases, it’s much easier to bring along the Sunday Golf Loma. Heck, I’d probably play better overall if I took it out the next time I played 18.
4. Forelinks CabSoft Golf Glove

I tend to wear out my gloves pretty quickly. I’ve been back and forth between Ghost and Under Armour this year …. until I tried the Forelinks CabSoft glove. The fit is impeccable, the durability has been great, and the kid behind the brand is just a solid dude. Give this one a go if you haven’t already!
5. melin Odysea Hydrolite

“Did you really just recommend a $100 hat?”
Not quite. It’s only $99.
But I’ve been on the Melin grind for a while. They’re easily the best when it comes to fit, durability and performance. And, yet, somehow, they made it even better with the new Hydrolite variant. It’s so darn good.
