The New York Mets and reliever Luke Weaver agreed Wednesday to a two-year, $22 million contract, a source told ESPN’s Jesse Rogers.
Weaver joins Devin Williams in moving from the Yankees to the Mets this offseason, reuniting with the right-hander to fortify a bullpen that recently lost star closer Edwin Diaz to the Dodgers.
Weaver and Williams are the latest high-profile Yankees to depart for the Mets in recent years, joining a list that includes outfielder Juan Soto, right-hander Clay Holmes and manager Carlos Mendoza.

Weaver, 32, emerged as a top-tier reliever with the Yankees over the past two seasons after failing to find sustained success as a starter through his 20s. The 2014 first-round pick recorded a 3.21 ERA in 126 relief appearances with the Yankees in 2024 and 2025. He had previously posted a 5.14 ERA in 144 games, including 106 starts, across eight seasons for six clubs.
The Yankees first acquired Weaver as a waiver claim from the Seattle Mariners in September 2023. He converted three strong starts with the Yankees out of contention into a one-year, $2 million contract (with a $2.5 million club option for the 2025 season) in 2024 and settled into the bullpen, where he served as a multi-inning weapon, a setup man and as closer during the Yankees’ World Series run that year.
Weaver replaced Williams as the Yankees’ closer early last season before suffering a hamstring injury in early June that sidelined him for three weeks and changed the trajectory of his season. Before the injury, Weaver had a 1.05 ERA in 24 appearances. He posted a 5.31 ERA in 40 games following the setback.
The struggles continued into the postseason, where Weaver allowed five runs without recording an out in his first two appearances in the American League Division Series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Weaver later implied that his poor performance stemmed from feeling uncomfortable with mechanical adjustments he incorporated down the stretch of the regular season to avoid pitching tipping.
Williams is expected to assume the closer role in Queens with Weaver as part of the bridge to the ninth inning. Williams signed a three-year, $51 million contract with the Mets last month after one season with the Yankees.
The Mets also claimed right-hander Cooper Criswell off waivers from the Boston Red Sox this offseason for starter depth and another bullpen option.
