Conor McGregor has been heavily linked to feature on the UFC White House card in June, but his involvement could have reached an impasse.
‘The Notorious’ has made a personal vow to once again dedicate himself to mixed martial arts, with all eyes set on his return later this year. Despite his lack of recent success in the sport, the Irishman’s ability to garner interest in anything he does greatly outmatches any other athlete on the UFC roster.
For that reason, the promotion must do everything it takes to add Conor McGregor to the lineup when the White House event rolls around. While both McGregor and the UFC have strong intent on making that happen, a significant stumbling block has presented itself, preventing McGregor’s comeback.
The recent deal between the UFC and Paramount has been built as a positive for fighters and fans alike. More lucrative bonuses and a much cheaper option to watch events were key aspects of the agreement, but the new step in the company’s evolution hasn’t gone down well with everybody.
After years of speculation, Conor McGregor set his sights on the White House card as the landing spot for his long-awaited return. That plan has now been put on hold in the dawn of the former two-division UFC champion’s latest comments.
“I won’t come back until me and Ari chat,” McGregor said in a now deleted post on X (via Mirror.co.uk)
The comment signals McGregor’s push for better terms. He previously stated that he and the UFC needed to sit down and talk following its Paramount deal, and considers his contract void due to the death of pay-per-view hindering his potential earnings.
With over four months remaining until the suggested biggest event in UFC history gets underway, there is enough time for Conor McGregor to bypass the stumbling block that he finds himself in. But if the past is any indicator, fans could be in for several twists before the June 14 event unfolds.
