Daniel Cormier posed an interesting question to Arman Tsarukyan. The former UFC double champ asked about how opponents should approach fighting the 29-year-old now.
Tsarukyan has been the No. 1-ranked UFC lightweight contender for more than a year. He got his title shot last year at UFC 311 against then 155-pound champion, Islam Makhachev. However, the 29-year-old pulled out of the title bout because of a hernia.
After that, Tsarukyan has had a hard time getting back in the good graces of the UFC brass. Despite beating Dan Hooker and proving his top-contender status, he was still denied a title shot for past misconduct and unreliability.
However, the Armenian has kept himself busy, collecting wrestling and grappling accolades. His PR run has been the most impressive thing in recent weeks. Ahalkalakets’ recently sat down with Daniel Cormier and discussed several topics. During the candid chat, ‘DC’ asked Tsarukyan to detail how any fighter can give him a tough fight.
“How do you fight Arman Tsarukyan today?”
In response, Tsarukyan stated the basics. To beat the Armenian, a fighter needs to mirror his skill set and have a similar fight style.
“You gotta try to take him down first, because if you’re not trying to take him down, he’s gonna take you down. A fighter who knows wrestling very well, it’s gonna be a close fight, but if you’re gonna stand and strike me, it’s not gonna help.”

Arman Tsarukyan is a backpack-style wrestler who not only has a strong base in wrestling but also has dangerous striking in his arsenal. However, in the past, he has struggled against Islam Makhachev, who boasts elite sambo, ground control, and wrestling. In 2022, the Armenian also lost to Mateusz Gamrot, whose foundation lies in freestyle wrestling and submission grappling.
Arman Tsarukyan apologizes to Hunter Campbell and Dana White
During the same sit-down with Daniel Cormier, Arman Tsarukyan, on record, gave an apology to Dana White and Hunter Campbell and then asked for a title shot.
Him headbutting Dan Hooker, punching a fan at UFC 300, and pulling out of UFC 311 have been the reasons why he was denied a title shot in early 2026. However, the Armenian has promised to be well-behaved for his next fights and not create unnecessary drama.
“Dana and Hunter, forgive me. Give me a title fight. I’m a good boy. I’m not going to hit anybody anymore.”
