UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria has provided an update on his proposed return to active competition later this year.
As we know, Ilia Topuria is easily one of the biggest stars in all of mixed martial arts right now. He has done some incredible things throughout the course of his career, and there’s every chance that if he carries on at this pace, he will start to feature in the greatest of all time conversation – and that’s not an exaggeration.
Ilia Topuria has a string of potential contenders waiting to battle him at 155 pounds, but in addition to that, there’s also a chance that Topuria makes the shift up to welterweight in order to go after a third weight class world title, something that has never been achieved in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
In a recent interview, Ilia Topuria opened up on his highly anticipated return to the cage.
Ilia Topuria discusses his UFC future
“In summer, hopefully,” Topuria told Adin Ross during a live stream on Kick. “… I don’t know (if I’m fighting at the White House). It’s like, you don’t say to the UFC how to make fights and where they have to put you, and they don’t tell you how to fight.”
“As of right now, I have no f*cking idea what’s going on,” Topuria said. “… I know that I’m going to fight in the summer, but I don’t have any specific date or place – but I know I’m going to fight. I’m ready.”

Ilia went on to suggest that he thinks it will likely be Justin Gaethje who he faces, but of course, the UFC’s matchmaking has been pretty wild in recent months – and with the White House card being right around the corner, there’s no way of really knowing what direction they are going to go in.
‘El Matador’ has been through some adversity in recent times but if he can go in there and knock out whoever stands across from him in his next fight, the UFC will likely strap a rocket ship to his back as his superstardom continues to grow.
