Jon Jones officially returns to UFC anti-doping program after ending 2-week retirement

Many doubted his intention to return just two weeks after announcing his retirement, but Jon Jones has hit another milestone in his journey back to the octagon.

‘Bones’ essentially held up the UFC heavyweight title picture by refusing to confirm whether or not he would fight again before deciding to relinquish his title, bringing an end to his career. However, the 38-year-old’s choice was short-lived, as arguably the greatest fighter of all time is making his way back to active competition.

Despite prior doubts, Jon Jones now seems set on a return to the UFC, registering a new test with the anti-doping agency, his third of the year.

A mandatory six-month waiting period is in place for any fighter who re-enters the testing pool before being able to fight again. While it isn’t the case for most, Jones is often offered special privileges by the promotion. Due to his brief two-week retirement, he could be given a pass to compete sooner, but does he want to?

UFC Anti-Doping

According to reports, a major reason for Jon Jones’ return from retirement was the announcement of UFC’s upcoming event at the White House.

Like many others, Jones took an interest in what is being rumored to be the best fight card in company history.

If all goes to plan for the former two-division UFC champion, he will return to headline the White House card against whoever is holding the heavyweight strap.

At present, that man will be Tom Aspinall. The Brit has been wanting to fight Jones for years, but his dream was never realized following the legend’s aforemented retirement.

Now, with what could be the biggest event in the sport’s history on the horizon, the Aspinall vs. Jones saga could conclude on the grandest stage of all.

Before any of this can unfold, Tom Aspinall needs make a successful defense of his title against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321 on October 25.
