Terence Crawford has again stood firm on his belief that the Netflix blockbuster fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson was rigged.
When Tyson’s return from retirement was announced, older fans rejoiced. Not only would they get to witness their favorite fighter in the ring once more, but they also hoped the matchup would essentially kill two birds with one stone if he were to beat ‘The Problem Child’ and put an end to the YouTuber’s boxing experiment. Unfortunately for the legend, he was unable to land anything significant for the duration of their eight-round affair and fell to a unanimous decision defeat.
The loss will forever be a stain on Mike Tyson’s resume, but fellow boxing great Terence Crawford isn’t sold on the legitimacy of the bout. Crawford isn’t as trusting of Jake Paul’s career as others, labeling his win over Tyson fraudulent.
“[Mike Tyson’s] not going to land a fist on [Floyd] Mayweather,” Crawford said ahead of the rumored Mayweather vs. Tyson fight. “Not after his last performance.”
“I don’t know, I think it was scripted. I ain’t never seen Tyson biting his gloves. Like, you could just [see]. It was taking all that he could not to hit him.”
Mike Tyson’s glove biting against Jake Paul kick-started a conspiracy among fans, and Terence Crawford considers those claims viable.
Whether or not the fight was rigged, Crawford was upset to see Tyson compete, if money was the deciding factor.
“It’s heartbreaking to see an icon go out like that. He shouldn’t have been in there at all. You know, I think [there ‘s] other ways… With all his connections and things like that, I think people could have put him in the right position to make some money.”
