Undefeated middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev hasn’t faced a lot of adversity in his seven-year rise to the top of the UFC’s 185-pound division. The Chechen has finished 12 of his 15 career opponents.
“Borz” captured the middleweight championship in a one-sided unanimous decision over Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 319 in August. In his previous fight that earned him the title shot, Chimaev decimated former champion Robert Whittaker leaving him needing dental surgery to correct the damage inflicted.
Chimaev’s accomplishments and dominance have gained the attention of former two-division champion Georges St-Pierre.
“Khamzat Chimaev is another guy that is in the best pound-for-pound rankings I should mention,” St-Pierre told Helen Yee Sports. “He’s there right now. He’s very complete, very well-rounded.”
“He seems really unstoppable right now,” St-Pierre added.
In his nine octagon appearances, Chimaev has earned six ‘Performance of the Night’ bonuses and one ‘Fight of the Night’ honors. While Chimaev seems unstoppable, St-Pierre knows no one is bulletproof.
“I think nobody is invincible,” St-Pierre said. “I think right now Khamzat is the best at 185, but that doesn’t mean if you’re the best you always win. It’s not the best fighter that wins the fight. It’s the fighter that fights the best the night of the fight.”
