2025 NBA Finals Game 7 Preview: After an unforgettable NBA season and six thrilling games, the 2025 NBA Finals will be decided in the most dramatic way possible: Game 7. The Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers have battled to a standstill, and now the championship will be settled in one final game. This matchup brings together two of the league’s most compelling stories—Oklahoma City’s youth-fueled rise and Indiana’s underdog surge—culminating in a winner-take-all battle for basketball immortality.

Series Recap: The Road to Game 7

This series has been nothing short of epic. Here’s how we got here:

Game 1 (Indiana wins 111–110): The Pacers stunned the Thunder on the road behind a 26-point, 14-assist performance by Tyrese Haliburton and a clutch buzzer-beater to seal the win.
Game 2 (Thunder win 123–107): Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took over with 34 points and Chet Holmgren added 18 and 12 boards as OKC evened the series.
Game 3 (Pacers win 116–107): Back in Indiana, Pascal Siakam erupted for 28 points, while the Pacers’ defense frustrated SGA all night.
Game 4 (Thunder win 111–104): Jalen Williams and the OKC bench came up huge, tying the series once again in a gritty performance.
Game 5 (Thunder win 120–109): With their home crowd behind them, the Thunder pulled away in the second half, with SGA and Holmgren combining for 55 points.
Game 6 (Pacers win 108–91): Facing elimination, Indiana responded with stifling defense, holding OKC to just 91 points and dominating the boards.

Key Players and Matchups

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA) – Oklahoma City Thunder

SGA has emerged as a bona fide superstar this postseason, averaging over 30 points per game in the Finals. His midrange mastery, improved playmaking, and leadership have been critical to the Thunder’s success. In Game 7, he’ll need to carry the load once more against a physical Indiana defense that will key in on him from the opening tip.

Tyrese Haliburton – Indiana Pacers

Haliburton’s creativity and vision have powered Indiana’s offense all season. Though he’s dealt with a nagging calf injury, he looked sharp in Game 6 and will need to orchestrate a balanced attack to keep Indiana in the game. His ability to read defenses and find shooters in rhythm makes him the Pacers’ most valuable piece.

Chet Holmgren vs. Myles Turner

This battle of bigs will be pivotal. Holmgren’s rim protection and floor spacing have given OKC a unique edge, but Turner’s experience, defensive instincts, and outside shooting could swing Game 7. If Turner can keep Holmgren in check and stay out of foul trouble, Indiana gains a big advantage.

Jalen Williams vs. Bennedict Mathurin

Williams has been a two-way force for OKC, attacking the rim with confidence and playing tough perimeter defense. Mathurin’s energy and athleticism give Indiana a spark, and his shooting will be essential. This wing duel could determine which team gets momentum early.

Coaching Chess Match: Daigneault vs. Carlisle

Mark Daigneault has led the Thunder’s young core with poise and innovation. His in-game adjustments and trust in his players have allowed OKC to thrive in close games. He’s been fearless about using unconventional lineups, leveraging the Thunder’s versatility.

Rick Carlisle, the veteran strategist and 2011 NBA champion, brings decades of experience. His ability to slow the game down, control tempo, and squeeze value from every possession was evident in Game 6. Expect Carlisle to draw up creative sets to get Haliburton and Siakam into favorable matchups.

What’s at Stake?

For the Thunder:

Oklahoma City is chasing its first NBA title in franchise history. This young core—SGA, Holmgren, Williams, Giddey—has defied expectations. Winning Game 7 would not only cement their legacy but signal the start of a potential dynasty.

For the Pacers:

Indiana has never won an NBA championship. This team, overlooked and underestimated, has overcome the Celtics, Bucks, and now pushed OKC to the brink. A Game 7 victory would deliver the city’s first NBA title and make Haliburton a hero forever.

X-Factors

Obi Toppin (Indiana): His transition scoring and offensive rebounding have shifted momentum in spurts. He’s a wildcard Carlisle will deploy aggressively.
Isaiah Joe (OKC): The sharpshooter has hit clutch threes all series. One hot quarter from him could turn the game.
Andrew Nembhard: A defensive pest and smart ball-handler, Nembhard will be crucial when Haliburton rests or gets blitzed.
Josh Giddey: His size and passing ability make him a mismatch weapon. If he stays confident, he can punish Indiana’s rotations.

Historical Comparisons

This is just the 20th Game 7 in NBA Finals history. Home teams have won nearly 80% of them. The last Game 7 came in 2016, when LeBron James and the Cavaliers stunned the Warriors. Before that, Game 7s were often where legends were made—Jordan in 1998, Hakeem in 1994, and Tim Duncan in 2005. The stakes are immense. This game will define careers.

What to Watch

Early nerves: Who settles in first? Turnovers and poor shot selection often plague Game 7 starts.
Foul trouble: If Holmgren or Turner get into early foul trouble, it could alter the chessboard significantly.
Clutch execution: The final five minutes could be a grind. Look for who gets the ball in crunch time and whether defenses switch everything or trap ball handlers.

2025 NBA Finals Game 7 Preview’s Prediction: Thunder 112, Pacers 106

This has been an even series, but Oklahoma City enters Game 7 with two decisive advantages: home court and the best player on the floor in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. SGA has been brilliant all year, and he’s ready for this moment. Expect him to deliver a signature performance—35+ points, efficient shooting, and timely passing.

Indiana will fight. Haliburton, Siakam, and Turner are too good not to keep it close. But OKC’s crowd, depth, and confidence at home will carry them across the finish line. The Thunder lift their first-ever championship banner—and this time, it won’t be their last.

Let the legends write themselves. Game 7 is here.
