Yet another player is coming back from injury just in time to take on the Lakers.
Morant has been out since March 14 with a hamstring strain and was listed as a game-time decision ahead of Saturday’s showdown. He’ll re-take his usual starting spot against L.A.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick was asked about dealing with the potential return of Morant. He told reporters that his analytics department had looked into it and found out that the Lakers have faced 86 per cent of opposing teams’ payrolls this season, which is “by far No. 1 in the league.”
The 25-year-old high-flying Morant has struggled to stay healthy this season but has averaged 22.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.4 assists over his 43 games played.
The Grizzlies are set to play their first game since the surprise firing of six-year head coach Taylor Jenkins. He was dismissed on Saturday with only nine games to go until the post-season.
Memphis is currently sitting in fifth place in the West with a 44-29 record. The Lakers have the same record but sit ahead of them in the standings as they hold a 2-1 season-series lead.
