Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets have agreed to a two-year, $90 million extension. Durant took approximately $30 million less than the max he was eligible to extend for with the Rockets.
Houston acquired Durant this offseason for a package that included Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the draft rights to Khaman Maluach and up to four second-round picks and second-round swaps. Both the Rockets and Durant had expressed confidence in getting an extension signed throughout the offseason.
Durant taking considerably less than his max should help Houston put talent around him over the next few seasons. The Rockets have Alperen Sengun and Jabari Smith Jr signed long-term. Tari Eason is extension-eligible through Monday, and rising star Amen Thompson will be extension-eligible next summer.
