The Sacramento Kings made their first offseason move late Wednesday night by mutually agreeing to part ways with general manager Monte McNair shortly after their elimination from the Play-In Tournament, according to league sources.
McNair’s departure follows the Kings’ 120-106 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, which bounced Sacramento from the postseason.
DeMar DeRozan led the Kings with 33 points, and Zach LaVine put up 20, but it wasn’t enough to fend off the Mavs. Dallas star Klay Thompson scored 16 of his 23 points in the second quarter. The Mavericks outscored the Kings 44-19 in the second quarter and led by as many as 26 points in an impressive road performance.
The Kings finished at 40-42 in a disappointing season that saw them extend coach Mike Brown in July and fire him in December. Brown’s firing upset their star point guard De’Aaron Fox enough that the Kings traded him to the San Antonio Spurs in February.
