The Atlanta Hawks traded the former first-rounder to the Nets in exchange for cash considerations, freeing up some roster flexibility with the move, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Monday.
Bufkin, the 15th overall pick from the 2023 NBA Draft, has struggled to live up to his billing during two seasons in Atlanta.
The 21-year-old averaged 5.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 10 games last season while playing only 12.4 minutes a night.
However, he impressed in July’s Summer League for the Hawks, averaging 19.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and one steal in 26.5 minutes of action.
The Grand Rapids, Mich., native had his 2024-25 season cut short after undergoing right shoulder surgery in January.
