Multiple teams were intrigued by Morant’s talent, but none were willing to make a “serious offer” for him before the 3 p.m. ET trade deadline, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Thursday.
Morant has been with the Grizzlies his entire seven-year career, winning the 2019-20 Rookie of the Year and making two all-star teams.
He is averaging 19.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 8.1 assists on career-worst shooting this season, 41 per cent from the field and 23.5 per cent from three.
The Grizzlies reportedly began entertaining offers for Morant in early January. Despite the rumours, Morant responded by reiterating his loyalty to Memphis.
Morant’s value could be hampered by his previous issues, including multiple suspensions for conduct detrimental to his team. He has also battled several injuries over the past couple of seasons, and he’s currently sidelined with an elbow injury.
Even though Morant is staying with the Grizzlies, they shockingly traded former Defensive Player of the Year Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz earlier this week.
