The 1972 Miami Dolphins, the only team in NFL history to produce an unbeaten season, has made a habit of popping the champagne whenever the league’s last unbeaten team falls. This year, they got to celebrate early.
The last two unbeatens fell on Sunday in Week 5, which is unusual even in a league known for its parity. The NFL has entered Week 6 without any unbeaten teams only four times in the Super Bowl era, and this is the first time it’s happened since 2014. And it’s only occurred earlier in the season once. That was in 1970, when there were no undefeated teams entering Week 5.
