As Boston College took its first steps towards the 2026 season back in the fall, it didn’t take long for third-year coach Todd Interdonato to notice a trend emerging.
Things are a little different around the Eagles these days. Gone is the starting infield trio of Patrick Roche (Milton, Mass.), Sam McNulty (Cambridge, Mass.) and Vince Cimini that provided Interdonato with so much experience in the lineup in his first two seasons in Chestnut Hill. Eight freshmen and seven transfers have joined the fold.
“This is just a very different group from what we’ve had, with so much experience graduating,” Interdonato said. “The vibe of the team, the atmosphere in the clubhouse and how it is at practice, all that stuff is just really different. And I don’t mean that it’s better or it’s worse, it’s just different.”
Still, the Eagles have pieces to build around as they look to build off a strong finish to last season, having won two ACC Tournament games before losing to eventual champion North Carolina in the quarterfinal round. Along with the return of several key position players, the biggest reason for optimism may be that three of the team’s top four starting pitchers and over 70 percent of the overall innings are back.
