College baseball fans around New England will have plenty to follow as the “Road to Omaha” commences this coming weekend.
Five Division 1 teams from the region have been crowned conference champions over the past week and are assured to hear their names called when the 64-team bracket is revealed on ESPN2 on Memorial Day Monday afternoon. The group could add a record sixth team if UConn is given an at-large berth, which would mark the Huskies’ seventh NCAA invite in a row.
Championships aside, it has been a strong year across our six states. While Northeastern has taken the headlines and a spot in the national rankings during an ongoing 27-game win streak, the Huskies from Boston are one of seven New England clubs with 30-win records and the leader of five in the RPI top-100 as of Sunday night.
Here’s a look at how a busy week of conference championship action went down. It all began last Monday with Holy Cross returning to the Patriot League winner’s circle and ended with Sunday triumph for the MAAC’s Fairfield and NEC’s Central Connecticut.
