An incredible chapter in the history of one of New England’s most successful Division 3 programs has closed — and a new one is about to get started.
After spending the last 28 years building Wheaton College into a perennial contender at the regional and national levels, Eric Podbelski has joined the coaching staff at Brown, where his former Lyons pitcher Frank Holbrook was named head coach in June following a two-year stint on Mike Glavine’s staff at Northeastern.
Under Holbrook, Podbelski will serve as Brown’s associate head coach. The staff also includes pitching coach and recruiting coordinator Andrew McKeon, formerly of Salve Regina. Those roles with the Bears were made official earlier this week.
Looking ahead on campus in Norton, Mass., sources tell New England Baseball Journal that Boston College assistant Dan Tischler will succeed Podbelski as Wheaton’s skipper. Tischler arrived in New England in the summer of 2023 as one of Todd Interdonato’s two new assistant coaching hires upon taking the BC job.
